'Uncle Ted' brings raucous rock show to Casino Rama
The Nuge. Uncle Ted. The Motor City Madman.
Rock legend Ted Nugent is known by many epithets for his exploits over a 40-year musical career, but the 62-year-old Michigan native is also known for his outspoken conservative political views and his activism in the areas of hunting and gun ownership rights.
Quiet, self-effacing and "on the fence" are terms you would definitely not hear in reference to Nugent. Between his columns for various virtual and print publications, his role in the National Rifle Association (NRA), his various television projects, including Spirit of the Wild, and his books, Nugent has been outspoken on everything from Christianity to government waste and animal rights activists to anti-firearms lobbyists.
He claims to be clean living: no booze, drugs, cigarettes or junk food are part of his life, and he believes that young people would be less likely to get involved in crime, and be less obese, if they simply engaged in some healthy outdoor activities.
Musically, Nugent was a founding member of late-1960s rockers, the Amboy Dukes, best known for their psychedelic hit, Journey to the Center of Your Mind.
He went solo in 1975, and churned out a string of hit singles and albums, and for the latter part of the decade, was arguably one of the most successful rock acts on the planet.
In that stretch, songs like Hey Baby, Cat Scratch Fever, Stranglehold, Dog Eat Dog, Wango Tango, Free-For-All, and his cover of Land of a Thousand Dances became radio staples.
His recording career tailed off in the 1980s, and by 1990, he had joined a rock supergroup called Damn Yankees, which also featured Tommy Shaw of Styx, Jack Blades of Night Ranger and drummer Michael Cartellone.
After two albums, Nugent again went solo and continues to put out albums, although infrequently. His last CD was Love Grenade, which came out in 2007.
Nugent brings his high-octane rock 'n' roll experience to Casino Rama Saturday, Aug. 13, for his only Canadian date scheduled so far this year.

“I'm damn proud of my band, crew, management, entire team and very proud of my music, my nightly performances, my gung-ho activism, nonstop charity work with kids and military families, my writings, our 'Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild TV' show on
The lights darkened to a bluish hue, and I think I felt the spirit he was speaking of. He performed his popular “Cat Scratch Fever,” but “Stranglehold” blew that hit away. The guitar work was tremendous, clear and powerful. Nugent's massive hands
I was and remain inspired by the ultimate uppity, defiant black R&B masters, and the spirit of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, James Brown, Little Richard. So many other maniac, black animals continue to drive me and my band and my music wild.

“We aim to get it as close to perfection as we can and still play it wild and crazy and have some fun,” Hurley said. “If you close your eyes, you'll swear you're listening to Dire Straits or the who or what have you.” believe me, you don't want to

Submissions welcomed, see below for details. & check out Aaron's music podcasts. (Find reviews via the search bar below or through the tag list in the right column.) And don't forget to support the bands by buying their music! Ted Nugent is famous for his "Cat Scratch Fever" 1970's Motor City Man/wild child blazing guitar rock, a member of the even earlier Amboy Dukes & his incredibly vocal activism for an array of traditional causes that has followed in more recent decades. For a brief moment in the early 90's, as hair metal was being stomped on by grunge, he was also in the supergroup Damn Yankees with Styx's Tommy Shaw & Night Ranger's Jack Blades. Sadly, what has become the dominating feature of his reputation has been his activism. There's nothing wrong with any of that & he speaks passionately on issues many other musicians avoid for less controversial topics ... usually ones that don't involve firearms & hunting. But, Nugent is really a musician first & foremost & it's that career that gave him the opportunity to be a spokesman. Things weren't helped by an& 80's musical output that was sub-par overly commercial pop colliding with musical indulgence marking a low point of his career that helped induced a shifting of priorities to non-musical endeavors. But, for a moment in 1995, just after Damn Yankees folded, Nugent threw out probably the best album since 1977's Cat Scratch Fever , let alone one of the best of his career with the perfectly titled, for him, Spirit Of The Wild . Featuring long time vocalist Derek St. Holmes & drummer Denny Carmassi whose played with Montrose, Sammy Hagar, Heart & David Coverdale extensively.
