BCCC to offer crochet class at the beginning of

The Division of Continuing Education in Beaufort County Community College and Caron International, once again, the offer of early popular hook 2-17 pm on Tuesdays, beginning September 20 and ends Oct. 25 in Room 830 of Building 8, BCCC campus.

This class is designed for the student who has never had a crochet class, but the most advanced students are welcome. Students learn to crochet, using different hooks and son.Students will learn to read patterns and practice of the hook basis points as they work on different projects throughout the class. The registration fee for the class is $ 35. The instructor is Linda Lewis.

College Night set for Sept. 27 at BCCC

Night Beaufort County Community College Annual College is set for Tuesday, September 27 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the multipurpose room of Building 10 of the BCCC campus.

More than 40 colleges in North Carolina and the surrounding region, and representatives of financial aid, are expected.

Admission is free and is open to anyone in eastern North Carolina thinking about starting or returning to college.

YARN: Caron International’s Simply Soft (100% Acrylic; 6oz/170g, 315yds/288m): #9748 Rubine Red (A): 1 skein; #9607 Limelight (B): 1 skein; #9750 Chocolate (C): 1 skein; #0006 Sand (D): 1 skein and #9727 Black (E): small amount

CROCHET HOOK: One size US C-2 (2.75mm).

ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Yarn needle, Fiberfill stuffing, Stitch marker

GAUGE: Exact gauge is not critical for this project, stitching should be tight.

STITCHES USED: Chain (ch), Half double crochet (hdc), Single crochet (sc), Slip stitch (slip st)

SPECIAL TERMS: sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (two loops on hook), insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook.

NOTES: All yarn used is split into 2 strands of 2 plies each. Use 2 plies of yarn throughout. Do not join rounds. Place a marker in the last stitch of round and move up as rounds progress.

DIRECTIONS: Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch. Fasten off leaving a long sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew leaves to center top of apple.

Stem: With C, leaving a long tail, ch 7 (tightly). Fasten off leaving a long tail. With yarn needle, weave tail back through sts and sew to center top of apple.

Worm: With D, leaving a long tail, ch 6 (tightly). Fasten off leaving a long tail. With yarn needle, sew to the side of the apple.

FINISHING: With yarn needle and E,  work a French knot for eye on the end of worm as pictured. Weave in ends.
