Tom Loewy: Courthouse workers 'here for the long haul'
Then there were the 99 people summoned to the edifice erected in the early 1880s on South Cherry Street. They came as potential jurors and were tasked with filling out questionnaires pertaining to the trial of Nicholas Sheley. One hundred and three more are expected today. Another 100 or so are expected to occupy the basement of the courthouse Wednesday. “Right now, we are hoping 350 people will fill out the questionnaires as potential jurors,” said Circuit Clerk Kelly Cheesman. “And there was a jury group from last week we can draw from. It takes a long time to get through it all — but we can handle it. I have a great staff. We had three staff members work right through their lunch and we expect people will be working through lunches all week.” Along with all the potential jurors, the courthouse will see an influx of media. Sheley’s trial for the murder of 65-year-old Galesburg resident Ronald Randall on June 27, 2008, is the tip of a sordid, sad, drug-fueled spree that spanned just over a week and two states. All told, the 32-year-old Sheley is charged with killing eight people in Illinois and Missouri in the course of eight days, allegedly for drugs and money. His victims — all killed by blunt force trauma to the head — ranged from the elderly to a 2-year-old boy.Knox County Clerk - News
“In my time as clerk, this is the biggest jury pool we've dealt with,” Cheesman said. But she pointed out another trial with a grisly narrative that tested the courthouse's resources over a decade ago. A Knox County jury convicted Daniel Ramsey in 1997

Knox County Clerk: A Pleasant Experience 07/28/2011 « Eloquence
I was in Detroit recently and my ID fell out of my pocket. My ID is the ID only from the state that is similar (at least in where you go to get it) to a driver’s license. Usually going to the Tennessee Department of Safety is kind of like entering an inner circle of hell. There are tons of people and the staff are not usually very friendly (probably from all the stupid people they have to deal with). As soon as I discovered my ID was lost I was dreading getting it replaced because I just knew I’d have to deal with this.
However, being a smart girl, I googled getting my ID replaced, mostly so I knew what to bring with me, and was pleased to find that since I only needed a replacement that I could go to the County Clerk branch in the Cedar Bluff area , which is quite near to my house. Apparently, if you just need a replace or renewal you can go to one of offices instead of the Department of Safety. You can read more information about this on the Driver’s License – County Clerk page .
I arrive at the office around about noon and walk into a nice quiet area, then into the room which is clearly marked “Driver’s License.” It’s a small room with 6 or 7 chairs and a counter with two people, a receptionist and an elderly man whose position was not clear at first. There were two other “customers” there when we walked in. I walk up to the counter halfway expecting the woman to be pissy or unfriendly. She nicely tells me where the form is I need to fill out. I do so, and return it to the counter. I also let her know that I wasn’t able to fill out the info about my lost ID (my ID number in particular) as I’ve lost it. She very nicely assured me they’d take care of it. She directed me to have my photo taken.
Apparently the photo part is the man’s job. He takes the picture and prints the ID. He was also quite nice and friendly. And, you’ll be pleased to know, that apparently you now get to approve your ID photo before it is used. So now people can stop complaining about their bad driver’s license photos.
