Light Cavalry charge into parade ring for 108th farming show

THE Light Cavalry display team will perform at this year’s Henley Show.

The horsemen’s Skill At Arms display will include sword, lance and tent pegging.

Other attractions will include livestock displays, showjumping, a sheep shearing demonstration, the Pony Club mounted games and the Farming to Food marquee as well as the usual stalls and exhibitions.

Richard Savory’s popular sheep show and Jan Prymaka and the JRCS Falconry Display will also be returning.

The show, the 108th to be organised by the Henley and District Agricultural Association, will take place at Greenlands Farm in Hambleden on Saturday, September 10.

This year’s show president is Kate Grimond, who is the third member of her family to hold the position.

Robert Fleming, her great grandfather, was president in 1913 and her father, Peter, brother of James Bond creator Ian Fleming, held the role in 1950. Mrs Grimond, who manages Nettlebed Estate with her sister Lucy, said: “We are so fortunate in the local area to have the show with its myriad of exhibitors and entertainment and displays and stalls.

“I have been coming to the show all my life, in the early days as a competitor on a pony, in later years as the driver of a horsebox for one of my daughters, but mostly just as someone out to have a wonderful day, watch the displays and do a bit of shopping.

“I am thrilled to have been invited to be president this year. As a family, we have been farming at Nettlebed for more than 100 years.

“Farming now is as important as it ever was, with farmers taking greater care of the countryside, supplying the country with food and producing first-class local produce. At the Henley Show you can sample that produce, admire the quality of the livestock, gaze in wonder at the newest tractors and marvel at the showjumping.
