Australia's Leighton Holdings Moves into Africa with $586 Million Botswana Diamond Mining Contract
JOHANNESBURG--April 21, 2011--Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info--The world's largest contract miner, Leighton Holdings Limited (ASX:LEI) (Sydney, Australia), in a joint venture with Basil Read Holdings Limited (JNB:BSR) (Boksburg, South Africa) and Bothakga Burrow (Gaborone, Botswana), has been awarded a $586 million contract by Debswana (Gaborone) to develop the Jwaneng diamond mine in Botswana. The Jwaneng contract is Leighton's first mining project in Africa. The company has a 60% share in the MAJWE joint venture.
