Huang Elected Prez Of Business Economics Assn.

Huang - with newly elected Vice President Ken Simonson - took office at the end of the NABE annual meeting in Dallas last month.

As president of NABE, Huang hopes to strengthen the organization, which was founded in 1959.

"As a business economist, I am truly honored to be president of this great organization," said Huang. "NABE has provided leadership roles for the community of economic affairs for many years, and it is a pleasure to work closely with other leaders and community members to provide a needed service to the company and contribute to the process of policy development."

NABE has three major audits - of its investigation of perspectives, industry and policy - through which it assesses the economic climate with regard to businesses, said Huang.

"We also have two annual conferences - one in Washington, DC, and Dallas, Texas - who are very complete," said Huang. "The speakers are representatives of our government, educational institutions and policy makers, business leaders and so on. NABE provides a platform unlike any other conference."

As chief economist and vice president of FedEx, Huang and his team to focus on business economics, risk, business strategy and the monitoring and surveillance industries and countries FedEx serves.

Based in Memphis, FedEx has dozens of distribution centers nationwide that collectively ship an average of 8.5 million packages per day.

With a number like this, there is a lot riding on the decisions of Huang. His experience and background to help in his role as president of the NABE.

"As a company (FedEx) serves 220 countries and territories and virtually all industries," said Huang."It's such a nice environment to get first-hand knowledge of what is going on financially in the world.

"When the business community is facing an increasing complexity with the business cycle and various regulatory issues - with a rapidly changing global landscape and the new economic model linked to the global supply chain - it affects the business community and understanding requires guidance and reference points and NABE provides this through different platforms.

The Resounding Message Coming Out Of The Bretton Woods ...

The resounding message plight of world economic leaders at the Bretton Woods conference today is that we must act.

And the purpose of the action, we need a strong leader. The fact that no one was now clearly on the minds of players as they talked about today.

Jean-Claude Trichet said that rapid action is necessary decisive in Europe.

Speaking at the Bretton Woods conference in Washington DC on Friday (which we attended), the ECB president said the world faces a crisis that sovereign is centered in Europe but has spread to big savings .The risk of infection is rapidly increasing threat to financial stability. To avoid infection, said Trichet, decisive action is needed soon.

Our take: It seems the consensus is that we need a leader to come forward to propose and implement a solution to the crisis. The United States, as it has always been the world leader, has the opportunity to play this role. Unfortunately, Obama is acting as a leader of the American middle class, etc., not the global economy. He also may not have enough business experience to his proposed action to be taken seriously if he were to make one. This suggests that it would have to offer someone else answer. Obama's war with the business leaders that a possibility unlikely.

At today's conference, there were many signs that the world's top intellectuals and business leaders believe that what we really need leadership, even if no one has said directly that the discussions that we participated in cocktails.

Brazilian central banker Alexandre Tombini said that we must act quickly to resolve the crisis of confidence, and that the solution lies in a single message.

And Jean-Claude Trichet said that we need authorities to possessing unquestioned authority, so people have confidence in a solution, to deliver this message. That this leader should say, according to Trichet, should have two key components of: triggering action - but do not despair.
