Early in his career, George Crock delivered milk in rural communities. Before his retirement, he took courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"My father never had a college degree," said his daughter, Kathleen Harrison Crock-Greensburg. "When he was promoted to vice president and general manager of the plant Robertshaw Controls in Youngwood, he was sent to school at MIT Sloan Management."
George Howard Sr. Crock of Indiana, Pennsylvania, a vice president to retire the old Robertshaw Controls Co. of Greensburg, died Saturday, July 30, 2011, Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was 93.
"The idea of not having a college education my father never held back," said his daughter. "My father established his life and his career on the importance of hard work, study, do not be tempted to poor fit and stay.
"And my father also made sure that we all gained university degrees."
In 1935, after obtaining Youngwood High School, Mr. Crock delivered milk for dairy products Silvis, before joining Robertshaw Controls.
"My father started his career at Robertshaw, working on the assembly line," said his daughter."In his 47 years with the company, Papa has also held supervisory positions and management. Even after his retirement in 1982, he became consultant Robertshaw. "
Crocker grew up in Youngwood, one of four children of railroad Crock George S. and his wife, Cora Bethune Zahniser Crock.
Throughout his life he was devoted to her Christian faith said her daughter, a faith transmitted by the German ancestors who arrived in western Pennsylvania in the 1700s. He became an active elder with the Presbyterian Church of Calvary in Indiana in subsequent years.
"As we grew up, Dad would like to stress the need to reach out to others that have not been as lucky as we were," she said. "He often used the Amish as an example. When we drive through an Amish area on our Sunday drives, he comments on how the Amish happy to share with others.
