Passion 4 K.I.D.S. Charity Launches National Campaign Asking 25,000 People to Donate $10 to Buy Specially Equipped Home for Baby Paralyzed by Uninsured Teen Drunk Driver Passion 4 K.I.D.S. children's charity is launching a major national campaign asking 25,000 people to donate a minimum of just $10 to allow the charity to purchase a small specially equipped home for baby Izaiah, paralyzed from the neck down and on a ventilator after being run down by a teen driving drunk while being pushed in his stroller by his grandpa on the way to the park. The rental home the young family is currently in is termite infested but cannot be fumigated due to baby Izaiah's immune system, has lead paint and asbestos issues and does not accommodate his wheelchair or therapy equipment. The home is not a luxury but a necessity for the baby's health, according to Dr. Dennis Maness, Izaiah's healthcare coordinator. Tax deductible donations can be made on http://www.passion4kids.com

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 30, 2011

Passion 4 K.I.D.S . (Kids In Desperate Situations) 501 (c) (3) charity is launching a major national campaign called "25,000 Giving Just $10". If 25,000 people donate a minimum of $10, the children's charity will be able to purchase a small home for the little boy affectionately known as "Baby Izaiah" who remains paralyzed from the neck down and breathing on a ventilator since being violently struck by a teen driving drunk while being wheeled in his stroller.

The campaign's successful initial launch in San Diego County raised $100,000 within several months but with inquiries now coming in from around the country, including even soldiers in Iraq, Passion 4 K.I.D.S. has expanded its efforts to allow those touched by this tragic story of baby Izaiah to participate in helping Izaiah's young family move into their own small home specially equipped to accommodate little Izaiah's handicapped needs. The charity needs to raise an additional $250,000 to purchase the home and renovate as needed. Tax deductible contributions can be made on http://www.passion4kids.

Ten months and six surgeries later, Izaiah continues to be paralyzed from the neck down with severe brain injury, partially blind, is nourished through a feeding tube, has a colostomy and breathes through a ventilator and tracheotomy.

5 Things You Can Learn from Ventilator Assisted Children

A week ago, I was given the opportunity to shoot a documentary film on the VACC Camp here in Miami. VACC ( Ventilator Assisted Children Center ) Camp is a free week-long overnight camp for children needing a tracheotomy, ventilator, C-PAP, BiPAP, or oxygen to support breathing, and their families. The children come from all over Florida and the United States to partake in activities such as swimming, going to the beach, boat rides, field trips, campsite entertainment, and structured games. For many of the children, these are activities they could only experience at the camp.

The camp, which celebrated its 25 year in 2011, was started by Dr. Moises Simpser , Director of the Divisions of Pulmonology and Pulmonary Care at Miami Children’s Hospital . Simpser, who was born and raised in México City, México, became passionate about a camp for ventilator assisted children (several of whom were his own patients) after his own children were old enough to attend summer camp. He believed every child should have the opportunity to enjoy the highest quality of life possible, regardless of their health.

Since 1986, Simpser and his small but dedicated staff, enlist the aid of several dozen volunteers (many of whom are teenagers and medical students) to create a camp where these special needs children get to enjoy activities that are not readily accessible to technology dependent children. Moreover, the camp gives these children (and their parents) the chance to meet other campers who face the same challenges they do. Many of the children are wheelchair bound and have limited, if any, movement from the neck down .

Feeling sorry for them yet? Don’t. Know why? Because as tough as you think these kids have it, they don’t feel sorry for themselves.
