Where Are They Now?: Bob Bartolomeo

Bartolomeo is in his second year as head football coach at the University of Indianapolis.

Last year, he guided the Greyhounds to a 6-5 mark.

He spent six years pervious as the Greyhounds' defensive coordinator and their defense led the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2009 in total defense and pass defense.

The Gary native and 1973 Andrean grad played collegiately at Butler and was the Bulldogs' coach in 1990 and 1991, compiling a 14-7-1 record.

He spent 11 years as an assistant at Ball State, and was part of two Mid-American Conference titles and two berths in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Bartolomeo and his wife Laura have two daughters, Anna and Abby.

Bob Bartolomeo is optimistic about the University of Indianapolis football team's upcoming season, despite being picked to finish last in the seven-team North Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Conference.

Even being picked last in the seven-team North Division can't put a frown on the 1973 Andrean grad's face.

"We want to go out with a bang," Bartolomeo said. "We have 17 (starters) back and we are excited about the season."

UIndy has a $6 million Athletic & Recreation Center, an indoor practice facility, which opened in January of this year. It will be the practice facility for the NFC team at the 2012 Super Bowl, which will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Bartolomeo grew up near 7th Avenue and Ohio Street on Gary's East Side. He attended St. Luke's grammar school, then Andrean.

"I guess I wanted to be a coach since I was a sophomore in high school," Bartolmoeo said. "My dad (Tony) coached me in CYO and I played for two great coaches at Andrean -- Coach (Nick) Crnkovich and Coach (Pete) Billick. Bill Sylvester at Butler, I had some great coaches to learn from."

"I just love coaching and at this level (NCAA Division II); it is pretty good competition and we see some pretty good teams. The University of Indianapolis has been great to me and I just love working with my staff and players.

Heritage Foundation distributes more than 350 K $ in scholarships

MERRILLVILLE. The Heritage Foundation distributes more than $350,000 in funding scholarships to College for the academic year 2011-12.

Among scholarships, programs managed by the Heritage Foundation are Lilly Endowment Community scholarship for Lake County and the legacy awards. Prices of these programs were announced previously.
